New Muji Storage

Hi Ladies! I hope you are all having a fab weekend. I'm not very well, my IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) has been playing up lately so my stomach is not in the best of states. BOO. However, I am attempting to go out tonight for my friends birthday so fingers crossed I'm feeling more human later. My lovely boyfriend is currently in town getting me some tablets, bless him.

Anyway, sob story over I wanted to share this cute acrylic storage I ordered from Muji recently. Makeup storage is something I have always had trouble with as I have far too much stuff and not enough places to store it. My dressing table is fairly small with one drawer and as that is already over-flowing with hair and tanning products I had nowhere to store my makeup. After storing it in a huge box for a couple of months, it became too messy and too hard to find anything so I had to look for a more organised alternative.

With this being said, I decided to dip my toes into the acrylic storage ocean and ordered myself a six drawer storage box from Muji. I ordered it at the start of this year and absolutely love it. I wrote a full review on the drawers here if you want to have a read. It organises my makeup into individual compartments and makes it easy for me to find specific colours. It looks pretty too which is obviously an added bonus. However, since the start of this year I have accumulated more and more products meaning the drawers just aren't big enough anymore. My god I sound like a makeup manic. My face products still fit nicely as I tend to use the same products and stick with them but my lip products are a whole new story. My lip collection is rather ridiculous and one drawer for lipsticks just wasn't cutting it anymore. I also found that mascaras, eyeliners, lip and brow pencils didn't have any place in the drawers so I decided I needed a new method for storing them.

This is when I popped on over to the Muji website again to find some additional storage. I've always liked the idea of having my high-end lipsticks out on display so I began looking for a storage solution. This is when I spotted the acrylic 'Desk Pot' which is essentially a rectangular box with three individual sections. I couldn't gage what size it was by looking at the photo online but for £4.95 I thought it was a bit of a bargain and ordered it anyway. I also ordered an acrylic 'Pen Pot' as I thought it would be handy for popping my mascaras and pencils in. This was only £1.95 so I really couldn't complain for that price.

When they arrived I must admit they were much smaller than I thought they would be. At first I was slightly concerned I wouldn't be able to fit much in them but they are obviously pretty deceiving as I managed to squeeze six lipsticks in to each container. I  decided to pop my MAC, Illamasqua and Inglot lipsticks into this container as they are the most expensive ones I own and the ones I would like to see staring up at me from my dressing table. (How sad?) As for the pen pot, it is pretty small but ideal for sticking pencils in. I also popped a couple of mascaras in there too so they will be easy to grab when getting ready. I really want to find a wider version of this pot to store my brushes in too as I'm currently using a mosaic one from TKMAXX that I'm not a huge fan of.

Overall, I really love my new set up. As you can see from the last picture it looks pretty neat and tidy. My only gripe now is my actual dressing table. Its black and small and just generally naff. I'm definitely upgrading to a huge white one with lots of drawers as soon as I have a job. If you want to treat youself to any of this Muji loveliness you can find it all on their website here and here.

How do you store your makeup? Are you a fan of acrylic storage?

Have a great weekend guys!

Lots of Love,

My Current Dressing Table/Set-up

Hey Everyone! I have just logged into my account to find a post I spent about two hours writing last night and hasn't saved. Brilliant. I wrote it at a ridiculously late time so I thought, I'll save it and publish it in the morning. Anyway, no point in moaning - I'm just going to have to start from scratch. The post I wrote was about my Dressing table/Set-up, so basically the place I would get ready in a morning and where I stash all of my beauty products. I don't know if it's just me but I love seeing these type of posts. Maybe I'm just a nosy Parker but I love seeing how people organise their beauty products, especially us makeup mad ladies. I think nice storage can make using makeup much more pleasurable. Also, as I'm going to Australia for five months in less than two weeks, I wanted to get this post done before I go away.
The dressing table I'm currently using is from Argos and it came with the leather stool and mirror pictured above. I chose the colour black as I figured it would be the easiest colour to keep clean when dealing with messy makeup. It also fits in with the black, grey and silver 'Boudiour' scheme of my bedroom. To be honest, I'm not particularly happy with my dressing table. The problem I have is that it only has one drawer and is generally not big enough. I mean its fine for now but in an ideal world I'd like to have a large dressing table with more than one drawer so I can start storing my makeup in them. You know like those girls on Youtube with drawer after drawer of neatly organised products? Yes, this is what I would like one day but for now I'll just have to dream as I'm not made of money. By the side of my dressing table, I have a large free standing lamp that I use when doing my make-up. As you can see, on the left-hand side of my dressing table I keep my Muji acrylic drawers. Don't get me wrong, I love how they display my makeup but I have already filled six drawers to the brim. When I ordered them, it wasn't until I saw them in person that I realised how shallow they are. They are fine for now as most of my makeup fits but I know they won't be ideal when my collection grows. On top of my Muji drawers, I keep all of my day to day products. This includes my Liz Earle skincare, random hair products and my MAC brush cleanser. I like to keep those on top because they look pretty and are easy to grab when I'm in a rush. Next to the drawers, I keep my brushes in a cream mosaic pot from TKMAXX. Again, I'm not a fan of this and I eventually want to get an acrylic pot to match the Muji drawers.
On the right-hand side of the dressing table, I keep all of my perfumes and some cotton pads which I obviously use on a daily basis. As the dressing table is quite small, I try to keep only my essentials on display and everything else in the drawer. I'd love to have lots of pretty storage on display, hence the reason I don't like my current set up. I can't wait to get a dressing table with lots of space.
Moving on to the drawer, this is where I keep all of my fake tan, hair care, hair brushes, body lotions and so on. To keep it somewhat organised I have used my old glossyboxes to separate the products into sections. I''d definitely recommend this if you still have your old bloxes. I also keep my palettes in this drawer.
So thats the dressing table covered. I have a pretty straight forward set-up, nothing too fancy but I like to keep things fairly simple with everything in its place. I keep any extra makeup that doesn't fit in the Muji drawers, in the black and white box pictured above. I used to store all of my makeup in this but it was far too hard to find anything in a morning. Now I tend to keep products I don't use as much in there. This box just slides under my dressing table which is quite handy. As well as this box, I also keep a set of three wicker baskets under the table. In the bottom basket I keep all of my bangles, in the middle basket I keep my velcro rollers and in the top basket I keep my hair extensions. As you can see in the picture, I have them dangling over the edge as this prevents them from getting tangled and damaged.

So there we have it, this is where I currently do my makeup. It isn't perfect, but it could be worse. Sorry for how long this post is but I wanted to explain where I keep everything in a bit more details. If any of you do this post, I'd love to see what your set up looks like.
I hope everyone is having a lovely day, I'm full of cold. Not impressed.

Lots of Love,

Muji Storage

My makeup collection had become what can only be described as an unruly MESS. I was storing it all in a large box under my dressing table and every morning the rummaging around and not being able to find certain items was beginning to drive me insane. In the past, I never thought I had enough makeup to have a proper storage system in place but when the large box was almost over flowing, I thought the time for proper storage had come. This is when I started doing a bit of research online for a unit to keep my stash in. I originally looked at plastic drawers, you know the type you would see in an office or school? As practical as they are, I just didn't think they would look 'pretty' enough in my bedroom. I wanted something that was practical, displayed my makeup and looked pretty as well.

I then came across 'Muji' acrylic drawers on a LOT of blogs. It seemed they were very popular, practical and they looked nice too. Bonus. They are basically acrylic, stackable drawers so you can keep your makeup neat and be able to see it through the drawers. A lot of reviews also said the Muji drawers were a cheaper version of the 'Clear Cube' storage unit used by the Kardashian sisters. The 'Clear Cube' retails for 100's of pounds, so I definitely wasn't willing to fork out that amount of money on some storage. I remember watching the Kardashians and seeing their makeup all neatly stacked in a clear unit and thinking 'wow' so the thought of having my own version was very appealing.

A lot of reviews I read online mentioned the 5 drawer set but I actually ended up ordering 3 of the 2 drawer sets to make a 6 drawer unit. I worked out I would need a drawer for face, bronzers, blush, eyes, lips and palettes so 6 was perfect for me. I ordered my drawers from the Muji website, here. It cost me £10.95 for the two drawers so 3 cost me £32.85. I think this is a pretty reasonable price for something that will make such a difference to my 'getting ready' routine. I really love the idea of being able to buy as many drawers as you need too. The website said delivery could take up to 10 days which is quite a long time, but the wait was worth and my Muji packaged arrived in about a week. The drawers were nicely bubble-wrapped to protect and I just couldn't wait to rip the packaging off and get them set up. I must admit, they were a bit smaller than I'd hoped as the drawers are quite shallow. However, I don't have a ridiculously large collection so they are big enough (for now!). I do feel like I will need more drawers in the near future though.

I absolutely love my new Muji storage system. The unit is the perfect size to sit on top of my dressing table and it makes getting ready a breeze in comparison to my 'box'storage. Here is a look at my storage before and after.

Overall, I am really happy I purchased the Muji drawers and I will definitely be buying some more when my collection grows.

Do you use the Muji drawers to store your make-up? Or do you use an alternative system? I'd love to see/hear about your storage methods.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Monday evening and has nice Valentine's day plans for tomorrow.

Lots of Love,

Kayleigh..

xXx.
