Rimmel Apocalips | Review & Swatches

Hi Ladies! For the past couple of weeks the beauty world has gone mad for Rimmels latest lip offereing 'Apocalips'. They have been featured all over blog land and lots of beauty bloggers rushed out to buy them when they were released last Wednesday. I was one of these people too and immediately ordered some on the Boots website as soon as they were released. (Is that sad?) They retail at £5.99 each which I think is quite a bargain anyway but even better, Boots are currently offering 3 for 2 across Rimmel products so I managed to get 3 for £12.00 - what a bargain!

If you don't know what they are or this is the first time you are reading about them, they are a classed as a 'lip lacquer'. Now I'm not sure what the technical meaning of this is but they way I'd describe them is a creamy lipstick applied in the style of a gloss. I've never tried anyting like this before but I hear they are a dupe for the YSL glossy stains and I must admitt I struggled to only pick three as quite frankly I want them ALL. The three I decided on are Celestial, Apocaliptic and Big Bang. As I'm sure you all know by now, I adore bright lips so Apocaliptic (a bright fuschia) and Big Bang (a bright red) were clearly going to be at the top of my 'must purchase' list. However, I also wanted to try a more natural shade that I could wear to work so thats where Celestial comes into the picture, a gorgeous rose pink.

So, now we've established what they are and the shades I picked, I'll tell you my thoughts. Firstly, I love the name Apocalips. I mean who doesn't love a play on words and a good name like this certainly draws my attention towards a product. Secondly, the packaging is lovely. I love the crystal-like lid and the fact you can see each colour through the end of the tube. I also really like the doe-foot applicator as its so easy to use and I managed to get very precise application without the need for lip liner.

As for the product itself, on first impressions, I am blown away. I know that probably sounds completely dramatic but these are seriously the most amazing lip product I have tried in a long time. Not only do they apply like a dream but the creamy formula and pigmentation is second to none. When I first applied them to my lips I couldn't believe how much colour pay off one swipe achieved. In the photos I've included above, I only used one coat and managed to achieve completely opaque coverage. They are also smooth and glossy when first applied which feels lovely on the lips. However, I wouldn't say they are moisturising as such so thats one thing to consider if you prefer more moisturising lip products.

Another thing I was seriously impressed by is the staying power. I wore 'Apocaliptic' for a day out yesterday and it stayed on for hours. Admittedly the glossy effect does wear off after a little while but that didn't bother me too much and even when it did start to fade off, my lips were still stained underneath with a bright pop of colour.

Overall I absolutely adore these and if you follow me on Instagram (kayleighjcouture), I'm sure you have seen me gushing about how amazing these are. If you're looking for some affordable yet high quality lip products, these are for you. I'm already looking forward to wearing one of these shades on an upcoming night out this weekend. I already know it will look amazing!

Have you tried Apocalips? Do you love them as much as I do? I think I'm going to have to buy the whole collection!

Lots of Love,

Top Five | Lipgloss

Napoleon Perdis - Santorini Sunset
MAC Lipglass - Florabundance
MUA Out There Plumping Lipgloss - Candy Pink
Revlon Colorburst - Strawberry Fraise
Sleek Pout Polish - Powder Pink

Hey Ladies. I hope you are all well. I have decided to do a mini series on my blog that will be my 'top five' of a certain product. This will range from lipsticks, eyeshadows, blush and potentially even perfumes, items of clothing and so on. I decided my first 'top five' would be lip glosses as they aren't something I have discussed an awful lot since starting my blog. I'm very much a lipgloss kind of girl and I love nothing more than popping a gloss over my favourite lipstick. As much as I like a matte lip from time to time, I typically wear a glossy lip on a day to day basis. The selection I have photographed above are the ones I reach for and enjoy using the most when doing my makeup. As you can see, there is a selection of brands from drugstore to high-end so there should be something to suit everyone. I thought I would go through each one and tell you why I love it and the reasons it has made it into my top five. So without further ado ...

Napoleon Perdis - Santorini Sunset - I got this lipgloss for my birthday around four weeks ago and it has instantly become a favourite. If you read my blog regularly, you will know I'm a bit of an orange lip kind of girl so this lipgloss looks amazing over some of my favourite lipsticks including MAC Morange and Topshop Infrared. It also looks completely amazing on its own too which is another reason why I love it so much. As you can see in the swatch above, it is very pigmented and ideal for sticking on if I don't have time to apply a lipstick as well. Another thing I love about this product is how it feels on the lips as unlike lots of other glosses I have tried, this is not sticky in the slightest. Overall, I would go as far as saying this is the nicest lipgloss I have ever used and my number one favourite. Unfortunately, Napoleon is an Australian brand so it isn't readily available in the UK but they do ship to the UK from their website here.

MAC Lipglass - Florabundance  - Of coure I had to pop a MAC product into my top five as like most people, I am a huge fan of the brand and their lip products. I only own a couple of lip glosses from MAC as I do find them slightly on the sticky side but this particular shade is one I have repurchased over and over again. Florabundance is the perfect nude/peach and would suit absolutely anyone. As I'm more of a bright lips girl, this is one of the only pale lip glosses I own but that means I can wear this over almost any lipstick and it works. I sometimes like to wear this over a bright lipstick during the day to dilute the colour slightly and it works amazingly. I do wish this was less sticky but I can look past that as the colour is perfect and it lasts a long time on the lips.

MUA Out There Plumping Lipgloss - Candy Pink - I bought this lipgloss after seeing it pop up all over my blogger home page earlier this year. Once again, I gave in to blogger hype and had to have. It is a plumping lip gloss meaning that when applied it makes the lips tingle slightly. I have noticed that my lips do look more full when I wear this and again this looks great over my favourite pink lipsticks or on its own. The formula is very creamy, highly pigmented and not at all sticky. The best part about this product is of course the price. As with all MUA products, this was an absolute bargain. It only cost me £2.00 and has lasted such a long time. Just look how big that tube is. BARGAIN alert.

Revlon Colorburst - Strawberry Fraise - I bought this a couple of months ago and as soon as I applied it, I fell in love. As well as loving an orange lip, my other favourite shade to wear is a fuchsia pink. This gloss is the perfect accompaniment to any of my pink lipsticks and it also looks amazing on its own. As you can see above, this is super pigmented and leaves my lips feeling glossy, not sticky. The gloss itself has lots of fine blue/purple glitter running through it meaning it catches the light excellently and dazzles beautifully. The blue under tones also helps to make my teeth look nice and bright which is always a nice bonus. As well as loving the actual product, this is my favourite packaging of all the glosses I have included. I love the quilted lid, it's very Chanel-esque. Ooh.

Sleek Pout Polish - Powder Pink - Now some of you might be thinking 'that isn't a lipgloss, it's a lip balm' but for me this is 100% a gloss. When I first bought this product, I didn't really know what to expect from it as the name 'pout polish' slightly confused me. However, when I applied this product I realised that although it looks like a balm, it is in fact a very shiny and pretty pink gloss. The reason this has made my top five is because the shine it produces is amazing. When applied to the lips, it feels smooth, silky and most importantly - glossy! It isn't sticky and I love how handy it is to pop in my bag and dab on whenever I need a top up. It is probably the most easy to wear and natural looking of all these glosses so if you love the 'my lips but better' look, you should definitely check these out. The peach pout polish is next on my list.

So there we have it. Just a quick post to showcase my top five lip glosses. I hope you have enjoyed this and if there are any other 'top five' posts you would like me to do, please let me know in the comments below. What are your favourite lip glosses? Do you own any of my faves?

Lots of Love,

Possibly the cutest lipgloss ever?

Lipgloss - H&M

Hey Ladies. I hope you are all well. Today I would like to share with you this amazingly cool lipgloss from H&M. Now I don't know if its just me but I am a complete sucker for anything mini. Wether it be mini perfumes, mini toiletries or in this case teeny tiny cute cherry shaped lip glosses. Yes I realise I might sound weird but I have always had a love of mini objects, I think they are cute. With that being said, when I got this mini lipgloss bought for me as a gift, I couldn't of been happier. This product is shaped like a cherry and has a screw off lid that holds a pink lipgloss inside. To be honest, I wouldn't really class this as a lipgloss due to the fact it doesn't have any colour and it isn't sticky or glossy like most lip glosses. I would definitely class this as a lip balm as it goes onto the lips clear with a very subtle sheen. It also tastes amazing and definitely lives unto its 'Sweet Cherry' name. It feels lovely and moisturisng when applied but I haven't been using it long enough yet to see a difference in the condition of my lips. As well as being awfully cute, very tasty and moisturising, this lipgloss is super cheap. I'm not sure on the exact price as it was a gift but I've done a bit of research and I'm pretty sure these only cost £1.99. Bargain or what? I'm not sure if H&M do other fruits and flavours as I haven't been in the store since I came to Australia but my Step Mum seems to think there were a couple more fruity options when she bought me this one. If I spot any when I return to the UK I will be getting one in every flavour going. For me, this is the perfect little lip product to pop in my bag for touch ups. It is very small and compact meaning it won't take up much room in my handbag, it works great on its own for a 'au natural' look or it can be applied over lipstick to add a slight sheen. I also think something like this would make a cute little novelty gift. I realise it might not be to everyones taste but I personally love it and would encourage you to pick one up when you are next in H&M. Who doesn't want cherry tasting, moisturised lips for a bargain price?

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend and a fab fathers day! It isn't fathers day here in Australia but it is my little brothers birthday. He turned nine today and we have had a lovely day. Don't you just love birthdays?

Lots of Love,

A Little Revlon Haul

Colorburst Lip glosses - Peony Pivoine & Strawberry Fraise, Tutti Frutti Lip Butter & Peach Colorburst Lipstick
Nail Polish in the shade Radiant - Sorry I've not swatched it properly but I didn't really want to take pictures of my toes. Ew!

Hey Beauties! Ever since Revlon Lip Butters hit the market, I seem to have developed a slight obsession with all things Revlon. Every time I go in a shop that sells it I'm drawn in by the stands full of pretty colours and cute packaging. Luckily for me, whilst I was out shopping recently I saw 'buy one get one free' signs all over the Revlon Lip Products. Thinking it was too good to be true, I asked the sales assistant if it applied to all of the lip products and she told me it did, including the ever so hyped Lip Butters. Being the makeup junkie that I am, I was delighted to hear this and began acting like a giddy little child. Yes, makeup and my excitement over it officially sends me loopy. Anyway, I of course jumped at the chance of getting two products for the price of one and started raiding the shelves. To be honest, I could of spent a fortune but as I had a gift voucher I decided I would use that and ended up limiting myself to four things. After lots of 'umming' and 'ahhing' I decided on two Colorburst Lip Glosses in the shades 'Peony Pivione' and 'Strawberry Fraise', my fourth lip butter in the shade 'Tutti Frutti' and a Colorburst Lipstick in the shade 'Peach'. I clearly love a  bit of Colorburst. I love the quilted packaging of this range, I find it really elegant and it sort of reminds me of the Chanel quilted handbags. If only I had the money to afford one of those. *Dreams*
So after spending a good half an hour trying to decide which shades I wanted, I headed over to the till to pay. Well, use my voucher. How good is that? Not only was it buy one get one free but I was also using a voucher to pay. Four Revlon products for free, score. Now I didn't think my Revlon bargains could get any better until the lady serving me told me about a current offer they had on all Revlon products. She told me that if I buy 5 products from Revlon, I'll get a sixth product for free. She gave me a little card and ticked off four products which means I only need to buy one more to receive something for free. Of course I won't be missing out on this so once I've decided on another product, I'll be returning to receive my freebie. Do you have any recommendations? Also, you may notice I've included a nail polish in the photos above. I didn't actually buy this on the same day as the lip products but I wanted to include it anyway. This shade called 'Radiance' had been catching my eye every time I saw it so I decided I needed to buy it. I think this shade will look gorgeous on my toes as its sparkly, fun and pretty. I'm not sure how well it would work on finger nails but I'll have to have a play around and see what I can do with it. Overall, I love my new Revlon goodies and I can't wait to use them some more. If you would like to see anything reviewed in more detail, please just let me know in the comments below. As you can see from the swatches, they are all pigmented, moisturising and gorgeous glossy colours, what more can a girl ask for?

Have you tried any of these products? What other products would you recommend from Revlon?

Lots of Love,
